En Fugl Føniks indenfor metalcore
Som Ivy Crown selv beskriver, har de rejst sig fra asken af bandet Taras. Et dansk punkrock-band. Man kan både høre deres gamle rødder og deres udvikling rent musikalsk. Bandet formår at holde mig fanget med deres relaterbare tekster og stærke energi. Med gæstevokaler som bl.a. Jesper Gün fra Ghost Iris blandet med Marias egen, rene klang, giver albummet et lydbillede jeg ikke har hørt i 10 år. En lækker forfriskning indenfor dansk metalcore.
Jeg blev omvendt
Da dette album blev lagt i hænderne på mig, var det fem år siden jeg sidst lyttede til metal eller metalcore. Jeg lyttede til albummet, men var skeptisk til at starte med. Det lød som en kopi af Icon for Hire, så jeg lyttede til begge bands én gang til. Ivy Crown er ikke en kopi, det er et silketryk. Ens i udtrykket, men Echo er et kunstværk i sig selv – et kunstværk, jeg med glæde vil udstille på min reol.
Om kærlighed og vrede
Ud af alle numrene på albummet er det “That’s What You Do”, der tiltaler mig mest. Det langsomme og tunge nummer har en førsteguitar, som kunne være trukket ud af postpunk, og giver en trist tone til nummeret. Den understøtter virkelig sangen og Marias stærke vokal, som også bliver suppleret af Jesper Gün. “Not Who We Are” elsker jeg også. Med denne sang tager Ivy Crown fat i ungdomsmentaliteten om perfektion, og bryder det ned til det mest primale. En stærk sang med melodien i fokus, hvor trommerne og andenguitaren støtter hinanden med hurtige riffs, mens førsteguitaren tager en stille og rolig klang, og lader tonerne stå nøgne i det hele. Det er et sammenspil, der virkelig understøtter teksten.
En efterklang af mere
Personligt syntes jeg at albummet er for kort. Echo har kun ni tracks som alle er under fire minutter. Det giver mig følelsen af at være efterladt. Jeg endte ud med at prøve at finde dem live, og selvom jeg ikke er fan af genren, formår de at holde mig fanget til musikken. Det lyder som noget, jeg har hørt før, men alligevel skinner energien igennem i Echo. Jeg vil hellere anbefale at se Ivy Crown live frem for at købe albummet, men Echo er et stærkt alternativ, hvis du ikke kan finde dem live.
